what i listened to in the car today 8/26/11

today i had to drive my good friend to the airport today. he’s been staying with me but now has to go back home to england. this is sad because he’s a great guy, this is happy because now i can be naked in my apartment again!

on the way to the airport we listened to the album Union by The Boxer Rebellion.

this is definitely one of my favourite bands and one of my favourite albums!

it just ticks all the boxes for me…melody, instrumentation, voice, production, song arrangement…all amazing! plus their drummer is probably in my top 5 drummers.

highlights for me are

what i listened to in the car today 8/25/11

still feeling ill…today i felt REALLY hungover, unfortunately i wasn’t drinking last night so i guess it was a symptom of my head being all blocked and me having a killer headache.

i needed something soothing for the ride into work so i went with fleet foxes self titled first album…mmmmm peaceful, organic loveliness

this is isn’t from that album but it’s so sick i wanted to post it

new blog idea

so micro reviewing the CD’s i bought every month means this page hibernates for weeks on end…

so instead i’m going to post what i listened to in the car on the way to work…

today was Our Love To Admire by Interpol…not their best album but i think a little underestimated…

http://youtu.be/_2NOyzlmCrY

worth a purchase if you don’t have this album, if you do have it, revisit it!

Photoset

So at work we just finished recording a little EP of cover songs, just to give people a taste of what worship is like here at VCNP. It’s basically a glorified demo but I still quite like it. It’s my first attempt at production so that’s nice.

Anyways this is the front and back cover, and it looks kinda crappy because i had to make it small enough to upload, but you get the point

….hope you like it!

bye

the CD’s what i bought in June

so just to recap, i buy a CD every week just coz, urmm i already posted about this so go check it out. anyway i thought i’d do micro reviews on all the CDs what i bought so here goes for Juney-poos

Owl City - All things bright and beautiful

  • ok so i was curious… you never know…right??…and do you know what? i thought it was shit.

My Morning Jacket - Circuital

  • this is a fantastic album! really quite good, like fleet foxes meet death cab…kind of. however, regardless of that terrible attempt to sum them up you really should do yourself a favour and go buy this album and listen to it a lot

Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys

  • this was ok. if you like death cab and come at this album with fairly low expectations then you’ll enjoy this album. it’s got decent songs with good production but it’s not their best album and it’s not gonna change the world…but it is worth the purchase and listen, i think.

The Cinematics - A Strange Education

  • i heard a track of theirs on last.fm on one of my channels (maybe strokes??) and was fairly impressed, so i got fairly excited to buy this album….which isn’t very impressive at all. just generic indie pop dancey stuff mostly without much character. maybe i was hungry when i listened to it but i didn’t enjoy it all.

so all in all a fairly disappointing month for CD buying but that’s all part of it i guess! nonetheless that my morning jacket album is siick!

bye

songs

i’m not a terrific songwriter but i can, fortunately, say that i have the pleasure of having a few friends who are truly special talents. Mr. David Linhart is one of them!

His first outing on Varietal Records was a reggae outing with his band “Win By Knockout”…i think his next affair is going to be more songwriter/roots styled and i’m well excited to hear what he comes up with.

There’s plenty of youtube videos to pick to show off his songs…but this is my blog so i think i’ll pick this one ;)

Hot

i live in Phoenix, AZ, USA and it gets flipping hot during the summer.

today is the first day this year i’ve really felt hot, like legitimately, ”crap it’s hot”, hot.

for someone reason i also chose to wear blak jeans today.

but in better news i found out that i really like to play golf!

this is a picture of my boss playing in our friends back garden…

fantastic!
